Eco Nappies

Why Choose eco-disposable nappies

Thinking about using eco-disposable nappies? There are so many reasons why they are a great option. Whether you want an environmentally friendly option, but don’t want to use washables, or you’re simply looking for a nappy that will be kinder on your baby’s skin, eco-disposables are the right choice for you.

Better for your Baby
Eco-Disposable nappies are the healthier option for your baby, especially if your baby has sensitive skin. Eco-disposables are made without optical whiteners, chlorine based bleaches or standard chemical super-absorbent gel, which have been linked to asthma, eczema and other allergic reactions. All these are present in conventional disposable nappies.

Better for the world
Bambo are 70-80% biodegradable, Moltex and Tushies 50-60% biodegradable compared to only 15-20% for conventional disposables. Conventional nappies use petroleum based polyester fibres in the nappy padding which takes over 400 years to biodegrade. Biodegradable nappies use wood pulp from sustainable forests and cotton fibres, which is more environmentally friendly and will biodegrade in a 2 – 5 years.
Conventional nappies also use optical whiteners and chlorine bleaching processes, which are harmful to our world, they also use a high level of super-absorbent gel, which can be toxic to the environment. Eco-disposables are manufactured with care for the environment in mind.

Biodegradability
Conventional nappies use petroleum based polyester fibres in the nappy padding which takes over 400 years to biodegrade. Biodegradable nappies use wood pulp from sustainable forests and cotton fibres, which is more environmentally friendly and will biodegrade in a 2 – 5 years.

Price Per Nappy
This is a comparison across the Maxi or equivalent size nappy. For only an extra 2p per nappy, you can reduce your baby’s exposure to chemicals and help the environment.

Popularity
Bambo nappies are our best seller; they are also the best value nappy.

Gel Content
Most nappies contain a super absorber gel, to help to keep the wetness away from baby’s bottom. The standard chemical super absorbers have been linked to Asthma and Eczema in babies. They are also non-biodegradable and toxic to the environment. Bambo uses a 50% starch based gel; the other 50% is a non-biodegradable, non-toxic absorbent gel. Tushies are the only completely gel free nappy.

Bleach and Whiteners
Conventional nappies are bleached using Chlorine based industrial chemicals. These are known to leave residues, which can cause irritation to sensitive skin. The Chlorine bleaching process is also unfriendly to the environment. Conventional nappies also use optical whiteners – more unnecessary chemicals!
