11 Weeks Pregnant
What's my name again?
Your baby is now the size of a lime. Wow!
Your baby now has fingernails, their fingers and toes have started to separate, and their eyelids are fully formed. Your baby's eyes are fully closed and won't reopen until week 26. Their organs are starting to function; their stomach is producing gastric juice and their kidneys are making wee.
You may notice a dark vertical line along the middle of your belly. This is known as a linea nigra, and has actually always been there - it just gets darker during pregnancy. This should fade away naturally a few months after your baby is born. The best way to prevent or minimise its appearance is avoiding exposure of your belly to the sun.
You may start to notice that you're becoming more forgetful. Hello baby brain!
Although often dismissed as an old wives tail, pregnancy brain has actually been proven to be a real phenomenon. It can start any time throughout your pregnancy, although it will like ramp up in the third trimester, and can last up to a couple of months after delivery. The theory is that an increase in activity in the part of your brain dealing with emotional skills affects how the rest functions. This increase in activity helps you attune to your baby's emotions, and respond faster and more accurately.
So don't be too hard on yourself, it's all for good reason. But maybe carry a note pad and pen in your handbag...
