Pregnancy Calendar - Pick a Week!
5 Weeks Pregnant
Apple of your eye
Chances are you've just found out that you're pregnant. Congratulations!
Your baby is now about the size of an apple seed, and is just beginning to develop a brain, heart and digestive tract.
You may have started experiencing some early pregnancy symptoms. This could include the very inaccurately named morning sickness (which can actually sneak up on you at any time of day), fatigue (you will be able to nap ANYWHERE) and perhaps even some cravings. Pickles and ice cream anyone?
There are a few foods you should try to avoid from here on in; raw or undercooked meats, liver, pâté, some cheeses (such as brie, camembert, Danish blue, and goats cheese), and certain types of fish (such as shark, swordfish and marlin). You should also limit your intake of oily fish (such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, trout, herring, and pilchards) to no more than two servings a week.
Now is also the time to, if you haven't already, start taking folic acid. This can help protect your baby from birth defects, including spina bifida. If you need information regarding supplements during pregnancy you should always seek advice from a medical professional.
